New Year’s Eve dinner with friends

בעברית

New Year’s Eve is the one night everyone wants to be out, and every restaurant knows it. Tables book out weeks ahead, many places switch to a set menu at a set price, and a dinner that costs twice the usual is a lot to ask of friends who never said what they can spend. Leave it too late and the group ends up wherever still has a table.

Book it weeks ahead

The good tables for the last night of the year go early, so start the gathering in November or the first days of December. Pick dinner for a long sit-down meal, or a late bite if the group would rather eat after a party. Offer the 31st, and anyone who can’t make it says so, so you know who is coming before you book.

Set menus, private budgets

On New Year’s Eve many places serve one set menu at one set price, so the budget matters more than on any other night. Each friend says on their own what they’d like to spend, and places over the group’s budget are left out. Nobody has to admit in the group chat that a set price is more than they meant to spend. Their no’s stay private too.

Everyone’s kind of night

Some friends want a long dinner and a toast at midnight; others want music and a crowd. Each friend says what they feel like eating, the vibe, and whether it’s a wine, cocktails or beer kind of night. Dietary needs are saved on each friend’s account, and places that show they cater to them come first. A place someone ruled out is never suggested.

Vote, book, count down

MiBA ranks the restaurants that suit the whole group, you put up to five on a shortlist, and everyone votes. You get a link or a phone number to book, and on this night it pays to call the moment the vote is in. Everyone hears where and when, and the only plan left to make is who starts the countdown.

Starting a gathering is free. Everyone signs in to answer and vote, and MiBA remembers their name and dietary needs for next time.
