Group chat polls vs restaurant apps: what works for picking a place together?

Start a gatheringGroup chat poll vs restaurant app: which one helps a group pick?
Group chat polls, review apps and map apps each help with part of choosing a restaurant. Polls count votes, review apps help you discover places, and map apps show what's nearby. MiBA brings the group's needs together: everyone answers privately, MiBA weighs every answer, and the group votes on places that work for all.

When a poll is the right tool
A poll in the group chat is hard to beat when the choice is already narrow. If two or three places are on the table and everyone agrees on the basics, like the night, the area and roughly what to spend, a poll settles it in minutes. Nobody has to leave the chat, and everyone can see the count.
It works best when the options are already good for everyone. A poll counts what people pick; it doesn't ask what they need. When nobody at the table has a diet to work around and the budget is shared, that's all a group needs.
When a review or map app is the right tool
Review and map apps are where you go to find out about a place. They're great for discovering a neighborhood, seeing what's open nearby, and checking menus, photos and reviews before you go.
MiBA doesn't replace them. If you already know you want to try a particular street or cuisine, a map app is the place to start, and once a few names are in the running, reviews are the best way to get to know them.
When MiBA helps most
MiBA is built for the part in between: getting a whole group to agree on one place. It helps most when:
- Needs differ. One friend is vegan, another is on a tight budget, and someone can't make Fridays.
- People hold back in the chat. Not everyone wants to say what they can't eat or what they'd rather not spend in front of the whole group.
- Everyone should feel heard. A birthday, a reunion or a team dinner goes better when the place is one the whole table had a say in.
If you've been looking for an app to pick a restaurant with friends, this is the job MiBA does: it asks everyone first, then finds the places that suit the whole group.
Using them together
These tools work well side by side. Once MiBA has a short list, read the reviews for the finalists in your favorite app before you vote. When the group has decided, share the place, the day and the time in the group chat, where everyone already is.
How MiBA works
- Set the intent. The host picks the meal, from morning coffee to late-night drinks, then the days, the hour and the area, and shares one link.
- Everyone weighs in. Each guest answers a few questions privately: what they feel like eating, the vibe, the budget and what they don't eat.
- MiBA finds the fit. MiBA weighs every answer against real restaurants and ranks the places that suit the whole group. The host puts up to five on a shortlist, and everyone votes, or the host picks one alone.
- Book and meet. You get a link or a phone number to book the table, and everyone hears where and when.
Group decisions. Sorted.
Common questions
Is MiBA free?
Yes. Starting a gathering and voting in one cost nothing.
Do my friends see my budget?
No. Your group sees what you'd love, like the food and the vibe. Your no's, your diet, your budget and the days you can't make stay private.
Does MiBA replace Yelp or Google Maps?
No. MiBA helps the group choose a place together. Review apps are great for reading about places, and they go well with MiBA once you have a short list.
